“I sell them for a few cents per can. I made a bet with my colleague more then 20 years ago that one day I would buy myself a Bentley with the money. In 2010 I almost saved up enough but then the tsunami in Haïti happened. I figured they needed it more then I needed my Bentley so I donated all the money”


“This feels familiair.”
“Have you been modelling?”
“Not really but I was one of those two-year-old who played in a pamper commercial. That was a pretty good gig though. It paid for my way through college.”

How do you know each other?
“We’re all medical students studying at the same university in Amsterdam. We are currently medical interns in different hospitals.”
“If you could change something about the medical system what would it be?”
“The current system is very hierarchic. As a medical intern you work full time for three years without getting paid a dime. The appreciation you get for the hard work comes mostly from the patients. Most of the doctors are under big pressure and that why they don’t get to spend a lot of time with their patients. The good thing is though, that we as interns get to spend a lot of time with them.”
“Isn’t it hard to have a close relationship with patients, even though sometimes there is a chance you won’t be able to help them?”
“That is one of the biggest misconception people have about being a doctor. Many think that as a doctor you’re supposed to extend the length of life but in fact as a doctor you’re supposed to contribute to the quality of life, while the patients are still living.”

“You’re not the first one to take my picture but at least you asked for my permission.”
“Why is that?”
“Maybe because I always have my book on hand so I can read inbetween walking back and forth from the post depot. And probably also because of the huge sunglasses I usually wear which are bright orange and match with the color of my delivery car.”
“How do you manage to read while delivering mail?”
“I’m a book addict so I constantly read no matter what I’m doing. Sometimes I read while riding my bike or even roller blading. Allthough I have to admit that roller blading is indeed a bit tricky. One time I got pulled over by the police. Since there is no law forbidding rollerblading and reading at the same time there was not much they could do so they send me off with a warning.”

“What do you admire most about her?”
“She is a tough one, No matter how hard the situation is she never gives up”
“Can you give me an example of her being tough?”
“She is 91 years old and a few months ago she broke her hip. The doctor said the injury was so bad, she would probably never walk again. But my mother didn’t take no for an answer and now step by step she is walking again.”
