“I place promotional posters all over the city for a living. In Amsterdam its basically forbidden to do so. When you put up a poster you need to be fast so you won’t get caught. But even if you do, in the worst case you get a ticket. It´s a small scene. We all know each other each other. When new members enter we always make sure we get together so we don’t get into each other´s territories. I tried to study several times but I guess I am just not the type to go to school.”
“Growing up I didn’t have a lot of money so I was never able to travel outside of London. One year ago I took a big step and I got on a plane to visit my girlfriend in Australia. I wasn’t afraid of the flight but to leave my family behind and not knowing what to expect was terrifying. Once I got there I absolutely loved it. Coming to Amsterdam was a big challenge for me. As a 25 year old I want to be able to travel all by myself. I won’t let my fear for the unknown become stronger than my curiosity for traveling and discovering new places.”

“My hobby is pole dancing, I have been doing it for three and a half years. I have a pole in my living room so when people are judgmental about it I’ll make them stay in that pole for a few minutes.” #amsterdam
“I come from a village in Germany with only 900 inhabitants. Moving to Amsterdam has been a big step for me. I came here to study anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. I took a 5 week course of Dutch language over the summer. Even though the books are in English all my classes are in Dutch so it´s very hard to keep up. Currently I am paying 800 euros a month for a 7 square meter room which I am sharing with a friend of mine. We share the rent but it´s still really expensive. Finding a job neither has been a success until now. I guess being independent comes with a price.” #amsterdam
“I once walked from Amsterdam to Leiden for a school assignment. We were very optimistic and we started with a group of 10. Every few kilometers a few people gave up. It was me, one my friends and his dog who made it to Leiden.”
“What have you learned from this experience?”
“That I love to walk. I don’t like run because it’s bad for my knees. When you bike everything around you passes by so fast. When you walk, you actually have time to let everything you see sink in very slowly.”
